History of 4E's

Our
Story

Get to Know Us

4 E's started when Frank Evans realized that the trees on his land could be turned into a business. Now, over 50 years later, 4 E's is a tradition for Christmas and landscaping trees in the Mt. Zion community.

Frank Evans, his wife Marge, and his four sons grew up in Decatur, IL. Frank first made a living in Decatur, IL as a grain broker. As the grain business got crowded with large corporations, Frank and his family exited the grain business and bought a 120-acre plot of land just south of Decatur, IL.

The Evans family moved to the land that would become the future business in 1963. While raising his family, people began asking Frank if he would sell evergreen trees from his land, and the idea of a Christmas tree farm was born.

4 E's Trees was founded in 1965 by Frank and Marge Evans, named after their four sons - Larry, Ron, Don, and Steve. Frank ran the farm until 1991 when Ron took over the operations. In 2022, Ron's son Ken joined the business to continue the tradition.
